Explore Our Top Fun Activities for Adults in North Wales
From axe-throwing & delectable pizza, medieval sword-wielding and ripping down valleys on ziplines, to exploring magical attractions steeped in rich mythology and folklore, there are literally tonnes of hidden gems and activities for adults in North Wales - whether you’re travelling solo, as a duo, or as a group.
So whether you’re on the move in the van, camper or car - or enjoying one of the many great staycation destinations in North Wales - here are some top-tier activities and North Wales attractions for the free spirits (including some local-lore gems, too). Let’s go!
Johnny Throws - Llandudno
Axe throwing, darts... and pizza!
Looking for fun things to do in Llandudno? Here’s one that combines axe throwing with some seriously good pizza.
A fun spin on the local hit pizza franchise, Johnny Dough’s - known for their super-tasty pizza - and most recently, axe-lobbing and super-tasty pizza. Johnny Throws also sports a bar serving alcohol and alcohol-free options (mocktail, anybody?).
Just so you know, the drinks are served after the axe-throwing, though… for obvious reasons.
And if you want something more traditional, you can go full old-man-pub and throw some darts (or “arrows”, as my dad would say), but with a fresh twist… we won’t tell you what that is though!
If you’re hunting for indoor activities in North Wales, especially when the Welsh weather isn’t playing ball, this is a solid one to have on your list.
Escape Bar - Llandudno
Arcade, board & tabletop games in a relaxed vibe
Absolute perfection if you want to kick back and chill with some free-to-play retro arcade games, and maybe even dive into a board game or two.
With low / no alcohol options alongside craft beers, ciders, cocktails and draught beers (if you want to rip a Guiness) - Escape has you covered for drinking options.
And if you’re around Llandudno in the evening, check out their themed nights - D&D one-shots at Drink & Dragons on Tuesdays (6pm - 11pm), cosplay meetups, and live music nights with DJs.
It’s another great shout if you’re searching for indoor things to do in Llandudno, or something a little different to do in North Wales at night.

Zip World & Bounce Below - Llechwedd
Zip-lining and cave bounce experience
Would you like to barrel down a slate valley on a zipline, at near the national speed limit? YES PLEASE, Zip World! There’s 6 lines to choose from, catering to all adrenaline levels, including less intense lines just in case you want something more… your speed (it’s cool - this author likes it on the slower side too).
No sunshine? No problem. Bounce Below has got you in case of grim weather, or if the ziplines are a little too much. Strap on a helmet and get some serious bounce on in a gigantic underground cavern. And, when you’re done evading gravity, there’s some serious action to be had on four colossal custom-built slides.
That also makes Bounce Below a great option if you’re looking for things to do in North Wales when it rains.
(Pssst, also… pro tip - Bounce Below? 100% excellent date activity. Especially as an ice-breaker, or wooing your new or long-time beau. No lie!)
King Arthur's Labyrinth - Machynlleth
Arthurian & Celtic legend come alive
We’re deep in the valley now, people - here be (affable) dragons! If you dig your mythology and a mystical atmosphere, this is one you cannot miss.
Discover the legendary story of King Arthur, and his knights - the origins of the red dragon (y Ddraig Goch, yn Gymraeg 🏴) - and many more tales of Celtic lore… by boat! Complete with hooded boatsman - your guide and storyweaver, on your journey.
If you’re looking for unusual things to do in North Wales, particularly if you love Welsh mythology, folklore and history, get this one on the list.
Vehicle required to get to this one. As we said, we’re in deep lore territory in the incredible Dulas Valley.
(Random fact... Welsh was the inspiration for Sindiarin, in J.R.R. Tolkien’s “Lord of the Rings”. A huge fan of the Brythonic tongue, he crafted the language to emulate Welsh - in words like minas, of the dark fort “Minas Morgul” (Welsh: dinas, “city” / “fortress”) - and in many other location and character names, such as Galadriel).
North Wales HEMA Academy - Mochdre
Learn the art of medieval sword-wielding
If the last activity makes you want to pick up a sword, and go full RPG… we don’t blame you. And, luckily, we have you covered!
HEMA - or, Historical European Martial Arts - is kind of like fencing… but with ancient medieval swords. You’ll learn how to wield a longsword, sometimes a sabre, or maybe even maybe a messer (“what’s a messer?”, you ask… drop in to find out!).
Definitely one of the more unusual activities in North Wales if you fancy trying something completely different.
The best part is all essential equipment is provided. You can just show up, especially if you want to try your hand at something new. All folks are warmly welcomed, and if you’re already a HEMA student in the area or on vacation, it’s absolutely a must to drop in and say hello and get some practice in.
The North Wales HEMA Academy gathers every Tuesday, from 7pm - 9pm, at Mochdre’s Village Hall. See you there for some North Wales sword fighting! ⚔️
Locked In North Wales - Abergele & Towyn
Themed puzzle room experiences at two locations
The perfect excuse to exercise your brain, especially if you enjoy puzzles, games and riddles!
Prepare to get locked in (I’m so sorry) to some serious conundrum-solving, in two locations - each with their own uniquely-themed escape games.
From evading a maniacal mad scientist, or being in a live action detective-procedural crime scene (plus more options!) in Abergele’s location - to mad hatter Alice in Wonderland vexation and horror-themed cabin-crazed axe men in Towyn, there are experiences to suit every taste.
If you’re looking for escape rooms in North Wales, things to do in North Wales with friends, or an indoor activity for a rainy day, this is definitely one to check out.
It's definitely a great option for your crew or group - be sure to book ahead though, to get the best experience.
